Anybody know what that music is currently on Connect’s call holding system?
Quite nice. Woman singing inaudibly some lament while piano clangs out mournfully in echoey background. Bit like some sort of early Neil Young stuff except he’s a bloke, of course. Someone answered the phone so I didn’t get to hear much of it 🙁 .

That’s Mavis from their Packing Dept. singing as she wields her case sealer. The piano is played by Eddie in Finished Goods plinking a 1940’s Chappell upright that was last tuned in 1985, reputedly by Les Dawson. The tune is that unmistakable and much maligned Victorian parlour song “Come into the garden Maud”

    HTH?:D

I had a look for that on Youtube and found several versions of it but I’m pretty sure that’s not it 🙁 . Thanks for trying though. Only trouble is I’ve now got that stuck in my head like an earworm and can’t for the life of me remember what the tune I was searching for went like. Have to phone them again I guess and pretend some obscure part query should someone answer.
I tried asking the salesgirl what it was when I first rang but she didn’t know. Please help. This is urgent. You know what they’re like. Tune could be changed at any moment for something different and I might never again have the opportunity to find out what it was.

Number was 0844 557 3700. Was looking to speak to “Pete”. Apparently he’s my “ISE” 😯 😕 ❓ . Has been trying for weeks to contact me to “have a chat, just talk about things, see if there’s anything we can do for you….”
Have always left the answerphone to take it when noticing the 0121 number thinking, “not today, thankyou” but thought it a bit impolite not to call him back as requested and tell him the truth. “Look buddy, this business is going down fast. If you’ve got any sense you’ll go and work in some industry with a future instead of wasting your time trying to flog off the surfeit of bearing kits nobody wants to pay to have fitted any more….” But he was unavailable, engaged on another call, poor foolish lad, and I was offered a call back which has still not come.
Anyway, the music has almost completely gone from my head now. It was elusive, ethereal, transient like all the best pleasures this life has to offer and perhaps I may never be able to recall it. 😥

Just gave the number another try. It was option 4, “accounts” I selected. Some other awful music came on but Amy answered almost immediately anyway so I was spared too much of that agony.
Decided to be honest about it, go for the jugular. “Oh, hi, just wondered what that music was I heard when I rang earlier?”
“Oh, OK, I’ll put you on hold, if that’s OK?” says Amy.
“Oh thankyou so much, that would be lovely.”
But, alas, they had changed it to some more modern rubbish.
I guess I’m going to have to pester accounts every day now until they put the right music back on and have my tape recorder connected to my phone with an outgoing message saying, “your call may be recorded for melodious purposes.”

    Re: What’s that tune?

this reminds me of when chip and pin was being launched and there were lots of tv adverts getting us the public ready for it a few years back now. The “music” (actualy more of a noise as it was only the intro) was driving me nuts as I knew it so well but just couldnt place where, Cds were played and skipped through for hours trying to find it as I knew for a fact that I had this piece of music somewhere.
In the end I had to dial the chip and pin helpline and I guess it was a break for the telephonist to be answering something other than mundane “what if I forget my pin number?” type questions. but she eventualy came back to me with the reply and as soon as she said it I felt such a fool as it was from one of my most played cd’s at the time.
just incase anyone is interested it was “A long day ” (the intro to “Soldier Girl”the alt version on some of the albums or just the last track on others) by the Polyphonic Spree from the “begining stages of” album. It seems the Spree dont really have to work these days as another track from that same album has been played to death in Sainsbury adverts for the last 3 years. (“light and day, reach for the sun” you WILL instantly know it when heard!)

I’ve always though they sound like uninterested foreplay in more ways than one 😉
