Guy I used to work for that sold a lot of re-conditioned machines used to swear by Lemon & Soda crystals for getting rid of nasty smells in washing machines.
He used to put 2 Tablespoons of soda crystals & Half a Fresh Lemon in an old sock or 1 leg of a pair of tights, tie the top & put in the machine on a short Hot wash. Seemed to work the machine allway smelt fresh when you opened them.
Used to do something similar with Microwaves only useing Lemon & Water in a small dish on the Turntable, turn Micro on full power for a few minutes. Also helps loosen stubborn grease.
