ParticipantWhats the Difference?
with a twin motor (compressor) and two thermostats
compared to just the 1 of each? are there any real advantages to having 2 or is that just its twice as likely to go wrong?? or is it you can use them outside?
Thanks Tony

ParticipantRe: Whats the Difference?
YES YOU CAN USE OUT SIDE,
JUST LIKE HAVING TWO MACHINCES ON TOP OF EACH OTHER
WORK JUST AS GOODSeptember 2, 2007 at 1:38 pm #226408kwatt
KeymasterRe: Whats the Difference?
The difference is that on a single compressor the fridge thermostat determines the cut in and cut out, also “regulating” the freezer temperature. If the ambient drops below about 10C then you run the risk of the fridge not getting warm enough to cut in and you get the freezer defrosting.
On a twin compressor machine, with twin stats or sensors, that generally won’t happen.
However a read at this article will likely provide much more info.

Ok thanks for that, so in general a twin is better for outhouse/garage etc, and the single is for inside the house, which is what i am getting and using it for
Thanks for your help again Tony

Yeah, I’ve not seen a twin pot machine for a long, long time.
And, anyway, whilst it may be better it’s still not without risk and, having a fridge freezer sited outside its climate class will invalidate any warranty or insurance cover.

Yes i was going to but the side by side fridge/freezer from curry’s (in the sale it was £499) and that had the twin temp and compressors, but 2 things put me off 1 it was a Samsung and the other was it only had the water that you had to fill by hand
Then i saw the LG for £50 more and it had a plumb in water dispenser (with a filter) and ice maker crush/cube ok it was a little smaller but there’s only 3 of us in the house and it was more that enough to convince me it was better than out first choice, but if i had to buy again i would have gone to comet to buy it (i know its the same company) but on line it was a little cheaper and free delivery too (curry’s was £50) so i am picking it up, but curry will dispose of your old units for free and comet will charge you , in the end my neighbour is taking my old units and going to use them (Hotpoint fridge and a up right freezer) so its 6 of one etc………….

Before you go down the Korean route, have a read at this one about LG and also this one about Samsung nor to mention this one on Samsung fridges especially
Honestly, I can’t recommend either as I consider both to be poor copies of the actual US stuff in both performance and reliability. The support on both brands is nothing short of woeful if anything goes wrong and well documented as being so.

As an afterthought…
The Co-Op that new Beko side-by-side, the ADP930S, for £599 but I’ve no idea what it’s like as I’ve yet to see one but it can’t be any worse that the Korean stuff. Only thing with Beko is that parts are liable to be a lot cheaper when the time comes.
Might help, dunno.

You could be right, i cant find the thing now on there site since the sale has finished, but im sure it was as i said, that’s the reason i asked the Q
Anyway picking the LG up later from curry’s, just had a look on line and it has a 2 year warrantee and not the 1 year (hoping i don’t need it) but i know uk whitegoods do an extended one, but i don’t know how much it is or for how long, its worth thinking about if i did know

Hi Dopey,
Ehm, that’s my fault. 😳
It’s something I don’t like to push in people’s faces so it’s not exactly made easy to find I’m afraid. I will get around to sorting it, honest. 😉
Here’s the price list for download as a PDF and you’re looking at the “2+3” column to give you five year cover. You can do it monthly, but that way is the cheapest option.
You should find it just a tad cheaper than Comet or Currys. 😉
