ParticipantHi,
We’re buying a new dishwasher. I’ve read the great article on this site about buying a new dishwasher and just have one question.
It says that it’s worth buying from a good retailer for the after-purchase service. But I thought that any after service care was done directly with the manufacturer rather than the retailer. Am I misunderstanding something?
The dishwasher we’re looking at (a fully integrated Neff) is about £550 at John Lewis, but we’ve seen it for £450 at retailers with worse customer service. We’re happy to pay the extra for better after-purchase service, but if the service is with the manufacturer in both cases anyway then there doesn’t seem any point paying the extra money.
Thanks,

Hi
Use the “what if” scenario, ie if it fails to arrive on the agreed date, arrives damaged, you cannot install it correctly, fails on first use. The £450 supplier is he going to be bothered, I doubt it very much, now John Lewis who have recieved again this year the high Street best service award will sort it for you. You have to ask yourself do you want this piece of mind or are you prepared to gamble purely on price.
A good high Street independant retailer will offer the same service as JPL as well.
Just out of curiosity which model Neff are you considering?

Hi,
Thanks a lot for the reply — definitely good advice.
We’re looking at something like the Neff S51M53X0. We haven’t fully decided yet; and it also seems that no two stores we go into ever have the exact same models. I’m a bit surprised that dishwasher manufacturers have so many models and have been wondering if they simply renumber for different retailers to prevent direct price comparisons.
Any thoughts on the model would definitely be appreciated. We don’t want to spend enough for a Miele. Bosch and Neff seemed to have the best reputations for quality and be in the right price bracket. The Neffs we saw seemed to have a nice layout.
Thanks again,
