    Hi,

I’m looking to buy a set of appliances for my new kitchen and am trying to work out the best way/place to purchase them. I’m based in Cheltenham if that makes any difference.

There’s a local specialist that I’ve been to which provided advice and a quote for all my goods, but they don’t seem to be able to compete with the non-specialist (curry’s/John Lewis) nor the Internet (ie ao.com) prices even worth their ‘extra’ discount.

I’m tempted to just go with an online retailer for the lot, but am not sure whether it’ll be better to go with the specialist in case any of the goods are faulty.

    Any thoughts / advice appreciated.

    Thanks, Andrew

Ps In case it makes a difference, I’m after the following :
    Full size integrated fridge
    Under counter freezer
    Induction hob
    Extractor
    Single oven
Combination microwave oven (to match single oven)
    Wine fridge (30cm)
    Full size integrated dishwasher
    Tumble dryer

    Hi Andrew

Your local specialist is one of a very rare breed still left as many have now ceased trading. Is the local specialist installing these products?

These outlets while not able at times to match the internet traders will offer you the the best advice, back up service, instantly contactable, and peace of mind which the internet can’t. It really depends what price you want to put on these factors.

If the price difference is really not acceptable return to the retailer and politely ask if they could maybe improve on their offer, negotiation this way may mean that you get a slightly better deal and the retailer can still have a good bit of business.

Just be aware the margins are just as thin for the net traders as they are for the bricks and mortar retailers. There is a fine line between what is good business and what is bad.

    Re: Where to buy appliances?

Thanks for the reply Don. They aren’t being fitted by the specialist, but I was recommended the specialist by the kitchen fitter who regularly uses them. I assume the recommendation is partly based on the fact he can easily return faulty goods.

I’ll have a word with them to see what they can do with their prices. Equally, if you know of any other good specialists within an hour or so of Cheltenham / Gloucester then I’d happily give them a try.

    Thanks,
    Andrew
