…..if it wasn’t for customer misuse or ignorance.
I have just spent the day working and pretty sure I have not actualy done anything that the customer could not have sorted themselves.
call 1, reported noisy Bosch, no fault found, customer had since cleaned filter and “a few things dropped out” then tried machine again on spin but didn’t wait the minute or so before drum action starts and assumed drum was not turning.

call 2, Hotpoint reported leaking: no fault found.

call 3 De longhi range, clock set to manual (however, did find the base oven element faulty so did that for them despite them saying they never use the convection oven.)

call 4, WPL tumble drier, only belt and door hook required and when I said I needed to order the door hook they said they needed a drier today and would go and buy one.

call 5, Zanussi 13 montsh old, start button flashing red, filter stuffed with dog hairs and had never been checked. “the label on the filter door says we dont need to check it” Infact it says the dead opposite!

call 6, Bosch washer, prog stops, button found jamming pump, I did the same for them 2 weeks ago and educated them then, have they learned?

call 7 Siemens door stuck, broken handle, ok yes a genuine repair but there again how did it break? Customer misuse maybe?

call 8, dead Teba cooker, turns out its a seperate hob and oven, the oven element had failed causing the trip to go, hence no hob either. OK another genuine fault but they could have got their hob working simply by re setting the trip and were not interested on spending on the oven in any case as “they hardly ever use it” (part obsolete anyway)

So that’s my day, yes I got paid for each and every job so shouldnt complain but have to wonder what the percentage of our work is, that should not actually be nessesary.

I wouldn’t ponder too much over percentages if I were in your position Mark.:D

I can’t recall the last time I had 8 calls in one day? 😕 In fact last week I only had 7 completed calls the entire week……..!!!! 🙁

Yep, i have to look back to the 90’s in my records to see a 7 or 8 job a day workload, been doing the garden this morning & will head out after lunch to do 3 jobs 😯
I must admit i quite like blocked pumps, broken door handles, little holes in plastic drums etc because theyre usually fixable 1st visit, an advantage in my area of scattered population.

In these times of short replacement cycles many parts simply aint getting the chance to wear out before the machine is scrapped so god bless the careless owner, they put food on our table 🙂
