ParticipantHi All,
First post & hope you can help please.
Just been to Comet for a browse of the Side by Side f//f’s with ice/water facility.
Whirlpool & Samsung models looked quite good ,the wife prefers the Samsungs. However, have a Sammy washer (1 Year old) & it’s not been without problems & reading some reviews on other this & other Sites the Sammy f/f’s appear to have inherent problems.
I’m expecting to pay about £800, but will go higher.
Could you please give me advice as to which are reliable units. Would prefer a unit with a decent freezer compartment (7 cu ft), water chiller/ice with a black or stainless finish.
Many thanks for you help.July 17, 2007 at 9:20 pm #221482kwatt
KeymasterAdmiral or Maytag would be my own choice.
GE next.
Then Whirlpool but I’d rather not have one of the Italian ones.
The rest trail way behind IMO.

Hello Barnes,
I asked this very same question when I was on the hunt for an American style fridge/freezer. I too went around the shops and looked at Samsung, Whirlpool, LG etc; finding that I didn’t really know anything about them I asked for help on this forum, see link.

In summary though I went with Admiral, has really good after sales. I say this because when mine was delivered it was missing the water pipe so called Maytag up explained the problem, a big apology, no fuss & within 24 hrs I had the pipe. I have been using mine since March and have been very pleased with it although this is not a long time and yes the test will be if anything goes wrong when it is out of warranty but from all of the info I have gleaned if it does getting some out and with spare parts will not be a problem. I would hope that this doesn’t happen…………
I went for the Admiral SAF224GB. Hope this helps because I know what you are going through as these things are not cheap and buying the wrong one will not help.
Quarter 🙂
