looking for an electric double oven to replace my current model Hotpoint 6166. So it needs to be 60cm wide or less, and probably 85cm high maximum as the current one is built on a plinth.

Any recommendations for ones to avoid or to buy? Without much thought my first ideas would be to look at SMEG, Bosch, maybe Baumatic. Zanussi is recommended by Which magazine but my girlfriend has never been very keen on Zanussi. Is she wrong?

Just a brand recommendation would help if not a specific model.

    Thanks in advance
    Phil

You won’t go too far wrong with Bosch.

    Re: which electric double oven?

ok but I have now seen some comments saying that Bosch bought some cheap Spanish manufacturer so you can’t even rely on good old German quality any more. Is this something I should be worried about or do Bosch still maintain the same high standards?

Also what are seen as the quality brands as I have also just read in other posts in the forums that Whirlpool and SMEG, which I would have thought would be higher up the list, are seen as middle of the road? What are De Dietrich, Stoves, Brandt, Miele, Neff like? I’m more interested in build quality and function than name and style.

Other requirements that I have just learned from my girlfriend!! : Fan assisted and with a digital temperature gauge so you know how hot the oven is – not just a light to tell you when it’s up to temperature. Also self cleaning. And I just read a post saying that the availability of forced-air cooking was useful! Is it really? What is it?

    TIA
    Phil

oh, and by the looks of other peoples experiences, good after sales service would be a big help. Hotpoint and SMEG have come out badly in some of the posts I’ve read.

    Check out:

Bosch bought the Spanish Balay company some years ago; they were a typical mid-range manufacturer and are now used to produce Bosch’s lower priced products.

Bear in mind that these days you WILL get what you pay for.
