I’m trying to decide which Miele washing machine to buy and i’m a bit stuck between the following models:

    WCA030
    WWD020
    WWD660
    WWD320

From my research I have discovered that not all Miele machines are made in Germany anymore, but I can’t tell which ones are or aren’t.

    My requirements are as follows:

    – a machine that is made in Germany
    – cold wash (not 30)
    – no WiFi

Any advice to help me decide would be greatly appreciated!

The only way you will find out is to visit a Miele stockist and physically look at the machine labelling. However I have found over the years that some bar codes are registered back to head office in Germany so you really never know.

    Thank you Don.

I was in John Lewis last week and the partner there told me to steer clear of the Miele machines made in Poland as they just aren’t as good as the German made ones. He showed me two- the cheaper end of the Miele range. But if you’re saying that even the ones labelled “Made in Germany” might not be made in Germany…

    This is all very confusing.

As far as I can tell the “cheaper” models are made in Poland, that is the type with the sealed tank which I suspect what our J Lewis mate was implying whilst the more expensive older type tank in s/steel Miele come from a “stronger than before” Germany. According to j lewis online they do not do the models you list in anycase
I suggest, bearing in mind the expense of your quest, that you check with Miele themselves to make sure you get what you want since you are laying out a fair amount of spons. Just a point, take note of the programme lengths because from memory a lot programmes take serious amounts of time to complete so you might want to check that too I`m sure one programme takes 4 hours probably the 40 – 60 eco programme ( always a long one that no matter what make) but you`ll have to check.
From Currys online: wca030 £749 has cap dosing perhaps you do not want that as does wwd320 and the wwd020 (£949 ). The wwd660 is wifi enabled and has the twin dos system which I would stay clear of as that will be a blockage failure just waiting in the wings.
No info as to whether from Poland or a “stronger than before” Germany was listed so I do not know.

Not too convinced you have done much proper research yourself hence make a llist of exactly what you want and do not want and write by pen and paper to Miele since phone call info means nothing and emails I never get much feed back from companies. If they do not contact you back walk away and spend your spons elsewhere.
Personally I do not like Miele and and even more I dislike Siemens – read the right history book and you`ll see why! For 640 odd quid that`ll buy you a British made Ebac with 7 year parts and labour- research those too – some models are hot water and cold fill if that is what you want now that you know it exists.

its all down to design and not really where its made

have had miele part labelled made in china so really the factory is an assembly plant for parts made elsewhere. cars are no different these days

What worries me is that Miele now only offer a 2 year warranty, even on models that cost over £2000. To me that doesn’t say a lot for their confidence in the machines and would absolutely stop me from buying one, especially given that you are pretty much forced to use Miele to carry out any repairs once out of warranty.

The Miele extended warranties are purely a promotional tool to increase sales, they do have a cost to Miele. Given the current economic climate I can see why the promos seem pretty weak but all manufacturers are the same at the moment.

As far as i know the Miele standard warranty has always been 2 year but the do promotions every now and then for 5 or 10 years

Don should be able to confirm this

I’m sure it wasn’t that long ago that only their cheapest machines had 2 years but everything else had 5 years with reasonably regular promotions to increase that to 10 years.

You are quite right tubafan to a point, the promotional warranties have only ever been on selected appliances.

TCL washing machines 7, 8, 9,10kg load models might be useful to know about.e.g FF0814WC0UK 8kg 1400spin inverter brushless motor so should be quiet. 279 quid plus 15 quid delivery from Marks Electrical ( and Reliant and others ) 2 year parts and labour warranty ( same warranty as most Miele, Lg and Bosch ) Steam clean cycles All the model FF series appear to be the same ( except for the kg and 2 door trims ) but the chassis sizes are different in depth depending what kg capacity. No i/net enabled nonsense, ordinary soap box ( it is the TCL FP series are the ones that auto dose ).Go on the Marks Elec website which is pretty good and you can down load the instruction ( destruction? ) booklet. No idea what they are really like just yet but since I am moving house that is what I will be getting in 3 weeks time so that is a leap into the unknown. Made in an expansionist China of course ( like some Samsung – even though Samsung S Korean – and Haier ) so that might put you off, German it certainly ain`t but then it isn`t 800 quid plus.

Thanks for the responses. Apologies for not responding sooner!
The reason I gave those machines listed is because those are the options D & G gave me as replacements. (Initially they offered me Hotpoint or Indesit replacements but I told them I didn’t pay my D&G insurance all these years to get a Hotpoint replacement. Eventually they agreed and offered me the above mentioned Miele models.
In the end I chose the Miele WWD320 which retails at over £1000. Before choosing this machine, I emailed Miele about their dismal 2 year warranties, which don’t inspire confidence. This is the response I got:

Thank you for taking the time contacting us! I am more than happy to assist you today!

We are glad to hear that you intend to purchase a Miele appliance and we assure you that will enjoy it greatly!

The standard 2 year warranty is set by the UK consumer law and since Miele is not financially regulated to sell extended warranties, that is the maximum that we can provide at the moment.

However, if you wish to purchase an extended warranty, you can go with a third party insurance a bit before our standard 2 year warranty expires.

We always recommend Domestic and General as our partners. Here is their phone number: 03330009799

Feel free to contact them for any extra information.

At your disposal for any other clarification needed.

If you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us at 0330 160 6600 or by email at info@miele.co.uk.

In any event, I am pleased with the new machine although it definitely has a plasticky feel, and the wash quality is not what it was before- my kids used to give me their kids stained clothing for stain removal, and my old Miele got rid of every last stain. The new machine is not as good- stains need more “help” to get rid of- in terms of vanish or something else, but otherwise I am happy with the machine, it washes well and is quiet and reliable. Now all that remains to be seen is how long it will last!

As an aside, I was in John Lewis again last week, and out of curiosity, asked a sales rep about the Miele machines- if they recommend them at all. She told me “off the record” that she can no longer recommend them in good faith, because they are no longer produced in Germany, and have the same plastic parts as many other cheaper brands- so in her opinion, they are hugely overpriced and not worth it…

“1)because they are no longer produced in Germany, 2)and have the same plastic parts as many other cheaper brands- so in her opinion, 3)they are hugely overpriced and not worth it.”.
    1) reckon the top of the range contraptions still are but then if they`re anything like recent BMW`S, Audi or Mercs let`s pray not. 2) think she or he really means the plastic doors on the more cheaper models are no more different in construction – when I had a look I think she/he/or even, these days: “it”, is spot on. Struck me that a Beko door had the same C21st “feel” about it as zee Miele.3) That is just an opinion which is fair enough though no one in retail is normally allowed to have an opinion as that shows intelligence – mate of mine got the sack for stressing an opinion in the days of Comet but then Comet (and certainly Indesit who I worked for) management you wouldn`t have put in charge of a village school fete ice cream scoop! Time as usual time vill tell as crystal balls are well renowned for being unreliable.
Feel free to up-date your experience with your Miele as time marches on.
