ParticipantHi, I’ve been looking at getting a new w/m and have narrowed the choice down to Zanussi, Bosch or LG. The big attraction with the Bosch is the short wash time (around 60mins compared with 80 or so for the LG and near enough 2hrs for the Zanussi). Question is, which is better for reliability? Noise? And does the shorter wash mean the clothes aren’t as clean? I’d love a Miele but as we have a budget of around £300-350 Miele aren’t in our budget.. Any help appreciated….

Participant£330 will get you the Bosch WFO2466 – reasonably quiet and reliable; 2 year warranty, quick wash option and a fair chance of being repaired promptly if it does go wrong!
Just my opinion of course,

Hi Alistair,
Don’t take the wash times as gospel ’cause they’re not so accurate in most instances.
There are huge factors that vary giving variable times to complete a cycle and manufacturers would hardly test such things under anything less than totally ideal conditions would they? And then, as is the case here, influence a customers purchase decision through such literature. 😉
Not that I’m in any way cynical. 😆
By these varying I mean that the wash times can be affected quite profoundly by the incoming water temperature and water pressure just for starters. And, with low water pressure after seeing a washer take over 7 hours regularly to do a 40C wash in high-rise flats I can assure that it does affect them.
Without knowing the conditions that they are tested under for those times the figures are pretty much meaningless.

Hi… I’ve found the Bosch WFO2466 for £270 (which seems quite good to me). Still curious about the LG as they have a larger capacity (7kg vs 5.5kg). I’m a geat fan of not having the washing machine going all day! Any views on the reliability of LG in general?
Thanks!

Be wary of ‘quick wash’ programmes as they are just that. If they could wash just as clean then why would they have the ‘normal’ wash programme in the first place?

KeymasterCheap Bosch is really Balay, made in Spain. Okay but hardly the greatest in terms of reliability or performace.
The LG is Korean (obvious really) and they have a habit of having the bearings fail prematurely. Probably as a result of the larger wash capacity and therefore more weight/stress etc. Plus the Far Eastern companies really don’t seem to know how to do service at all, I’d avoid.

The WFO2466 is a 6KG capacity according to spec sheet. Don`t forget they also give a two year guarantee 😀 as well, subject to customer registration. A better deal all round.
