ParticipantI can’t believe I’m back on asking for advice so soon after needing a new tumble drier – last night my washing machine blew up – smoke came out the back so I don’t think it will be repairable! Its a Hoover Quattro AS110 and I can’t remember buying it but think it would be about 11 years ago.
I bought the Zanussi drier you recommended a few weeks ago and now I am having to fork out for a drier so would like some advice please. I have read all the articles I can find on here so now know I only need a cold feed and 800rpm spin speed but am unsure about other features such as load capacity.
I divide into whites, light colours and dark colours and do about 7 loads a week for 2 adults, 2 kids. The most probs I have are with food / grass / mud stains & sweat. It will be on a solid tile on concrete floor in a utility room. Hope that’s everything you asked for. My budget is as little as poss but I’ve read all the arguments against under £300 machines. I’m confused!
I’d be very grateful for any assistance, thanks.

Hi Mrs C
Basically the cheaper the machine the shorter the life span and the poorer the service should it fail.
Washing 7 loads a week you would be much better off to go for either the Bosch WAE24363 or it`s 1400 spin partner the 28363, both have a two year warranty.
Another way of looking at it would be the ISE5 designed by engineers from this site, delivered by the same guys and also serviced should it fail yep you got it by the same guys 8) . It comes with a full five year warranty, after this period spares are a lot cheaper than the mainstream suppliers. Price for this well crafted appliance is a mere £449 plus delivery and installation. Click the link to see what we mean ISE5 1600 spin AAA rated with a full five-year warranty While it isn`t cheap it will outlast anything else in it`s class and Which magazine think highly of it as well.

Thanks for your prompt response, I’ve looked at both the models you recommend.
On the one hand money is tight (esp. having just bought the drier!) and I don’t want to pay for lots of features I don’t need so I am almost put off all the features on the ISE as I only ever used 2 programmes on my old machine. I only ever spun at 900 rpm on the old one and your survey on here shows that 800 is sufficient so I don’t need more. It also features quick washes when an article on this site said that quick washes don’t clean your clothes properly and I don’t think I would use them.
On the other hand I don’t want the false economy and hassle of going for the Bosch (whose features seem adequate to me) only to have it break down after the 2 year warranty and me thinking I should have listened to you!
So the question is, would the extra £170 I’d pay buy me a much longer lasting machine or is it to pay for fancy features I would never use? I really am a simple 40 degree wash kinda gal!

Hi MrsC
I have installed some of these and I can honestly say it is a well crafted machine worthy of the price point and with it`s full five year warranty is indeed a good solid purchase.
I think this section from the ISE website homepage sums it up quite nicely.
ISE wrote: Our machines are built to the highest standards, with long guarantees (underwritten with AXA). They are designed to be easy to repair by local independent repairers who are trained and equipped by us with spare parts supplied to them with no mark up ; thus making out of guarantee repairs good value relative to a replacement.
We intend to reduce global CO2 emissions by shrinking the UK domestic appliance market and encouraging repair over replacement. Not very attractive if your business relies exclusively on the sales of new products, therefore you will not see ISE in convention electrical retailers.
If you need to change one of your kitchen appliances consider ISE and break the cycle of needless consumption.

@Mrs C.I recently purchased a Bosch WAA24162GB for £255 from Comet vat free(reduced from £299), and it seems incredibly well built compared to my previous washer(Hoover six 1300).I did a bit of research prior to buying it, and everyone praises it.Having said that, only time will tell.Just my 2 penneth.Hope this helps.August 2, 2008 at 7:48 am #258876Dales-Electronic

You could also look at the ISE2 on the same website, this one with a 2 year parts and labour guarantee.
