Re: Which wire is which in my freezer!
Ok, just did some research. The thermostat is a Ranco thermostat, I think K series.
I also stuck a multimeter on it, when the freezer is warm (i.e. off and warmed up or compressor is on trying to cool it down). There is 240V on all three of the wires on the side of the thermostat (Black, White and Brown).
When the freezer is at the correct temperature, so plugged in but compressor not working, the brown wire has 240V but the Black and White seem to be at 0V.
I wasn’t able to test the blue wire as I can’t get a connection and can’t get the front panel off easily (didn’t want to damage the freezer and can’t see an easy way to get it out).
What do you think this tells me about the wiring? What I’m trying to do here is use a separate thermostat so am looking to find two wires that when connected will turn the compressor on (if that makes sense?) Do you know which wires this could possibly be?
Cheers, hope someone can help.
