The rinse aid compartment catch has broken, through old age. The part is a push fit, and I still have the spring. I’ve already tried Whitegoods spares and the only suitable spare is the whole dispenser at £42.

Although the machine has soldiered on with replacement pump and heater, I’m not about to spend £42 to fix a tiny glitch like this. If anyone has a hangar queen with this bit spare, then get in touch please – a bit of wooden skewer plus duct tape is holding the compartment shut at present. I realise I may be conducting a long-term test on how well duct tape stands up to being dishwashed 🙂

You may be onto a hiding to nothing here – the original dispenser has been superceded three times, so there is a distinct possibility that finding a suitable scrapper will be difficult…….

    Anyway, good luck with it.

Yes, I realise that the likelyhood is slim, but it should be better here than anywhere else, and the alternative is to carry on with the bit of stick. At least the design means I can get away with a bit of stick – pushed down the hole where the spring came out, the right diameter bit of stick pops into a cutout on the lid, meaning it retains itself and aplies enough pressure to keep the rinse aid from leaking out. The duct tape is for belt-and-braces protection.

I’m more worried about the soap dispenser catch which is made out of the same plastic, and of course is operated by the machine on every wash. Can’t get away with duct tape there…
