ParticipantHi there,
I’m hoping someone can give me some help or advice for my non working fridge freezer, make and model:
American style Whirlpool 20RBD4 side by side fridge freezer.
The back story is: We had a power cut from 9pm Friday night until 3pm the following day. The power had been coming on and off intermittently over a space of 20 mins before fully returning. There was a popping sound heard from the unit, it switched off and the control panel went black, almost as if the fuse had blown. The only things working on the unit are the internal lights for both fridge and freezer. No compressor working, no display panel illumination, no fans running – everything else bar lights seems dead.
The unit has been switched off since yesterday evening, I switched it on this morning but still the same result.
I was wondering can anyone give me any advice, is there a master reset button I’m missing? The appliance appears to be getting power fine but nothing is happening.
Any advice would be appreciated.March 25, 2013 at 1:20 am #392639clivejameson

Without running a meter around to confirm it sounds like the power cuts have damaged the control board…or more likely when the power was interupted or restored there were some nasty spikes in the supply which have done the damage.
My advice would be to contact your power company and complain that you believe their supply has damaged your appliance, then get a repairer in to diagnose and quote for the repair.
It’s quite possible that you may not be the only one in the area so ask your neighbours if they’ve had any problems particularly with anything electronic…if they have then that’s all ammo to approach the power company with.

Our Whirlpool 20RB-D4 just stop working last night.
Not sure if there was any spikes, but the ice maker had previously given up several months ago.
With the fridge/ Freezer now in a Australia finding someone who knows about the fridge has been difficult. Whirlpool Australia indicated that the unit did not exist.
The Problem
Fridge and Freezer stopped working over night.
Switched the unit off and then on again. the Led display lighted up for a couple of seconds and then went off, leaving only one little blue light on the top left under the word freezer.
I was hoping if anyone could point me in the right direction, i might be able to diagnose the problem myself.
Any help would be appreciated.
