Whirlpool ADG 6340 WH problem – pulses 21 times at startup

I select 50 degree wash and press the ‘on’ button. The machine kicks off and a motor runs. After less than a minute it pulses, with both the power ‘on’ light and ‘temp’ light flashing about 21 times. It then repeats this 21 pulse cycle a further two times.

If you run a cold tap at this time, you can see that the tap water flow is modulated in time with the pulsing. The drain hose also gurgles in synchronism. It’s like someone is turning it off / on.

Once its stopped pulsing it fills and runs through the wash ok. Towards the end of the wash cycle, the pulsing starts again as above, but this time without pulsing the cold water supply. It then continues to finish normally.

Although the machine still works and washes ok, something is obviously wrong as it never used to do this. Can you please help diagnose the problem.

I’m no Whirly expert but I’m thinking it could be this at fault?
