Whirlpool ADG 7550 won’t start

The machine stopped working last night. I can choose a setting at the top and turn the machine off and on…. at least the lights come on. However, when I close the door, nothing happens…. no noises of motors, water… nothing.

I noticed that when I close the door, the control lights go out just before the door reaches vertical and clicks shut, but don’t know if this is ‘normal’ behaviour. Could it be a loose connection or faulty switch? Is it a big job to replace? I live in Leeds and wondered how expensive a repair might be.

if the lights go out before the door clicks shut itr may well be a wire broken
dishwashers have a habit of breaking the wires at the bottom of the door where the wires exit the door panel and enter the base
