Whirlpool ADG 954/2 – Broken Pump?

Our Whirlpool ADG 954/2 dishwasher is not circulating water. When turned on, water can be heard travelling from the mains pipe into the dishwasher however it is does not then move into the spraying arms. The programme continues as normal (albeit there is no water) and you can hear the water drain as normal. Electronics therefore seem to be ok. Is it the pump that’s broken?

If yes, how much is a new pump and any idea where I can get one from.

I wonder if, after the tub fills with water, you can hear a faint humming noise? Thus indicating the main wash pump has seized 🙁

The dishwasher cycle is such that when first you turn it on you will hear the drain pump for about a minute, then it starts to fill….what happens after it has filled???

Some water enters the filter bowl but no water circulates through the spray arms. There is a loud power hum evident.

Thought so, and it looks like the main wash motor has seized….expensive to sort I’m afraid 🙁

Thanks. Final query. Before I write it off and get a new one, any idea cost of a new motor?

You will have to fork out around £150 just for the motor 🙁

Have to agree with Martin, it certainly sounds like the motor and/or pump has siezed/failed. There is a slight possibility that the motor capacitor has failed, this would normally give a quiet hum from the motor as opposed to a loud hum. Past experience on these has shown that the pump seal fails and leaks water onto the motor bearings.
The pump should be available as a seperate part from the motor but from your descriptions we have no way of knowing for sure whether the motor is ok or not.
The part numbers I have for the pump is 481990501202, the wash pump motor is 481990501201 and the capacitor is 481990501139.
Dave will be able to tell you whether these numbers have been changed and give you an idea on price.
