    Hi,

My Whirlpool ADG9540 appears to have stopped mid-cycle last night – in the morning I found about an 1.5 inches of water across the bottom of the dishwasher that had not been drained away with the plates only ‘slightly’ cleaned.

I have removed the water by hand and checked for an obvious bloackage but it all appears quite clean below the perforatted tray – there does not appear to be any blockage issues.

I tried the ‘start’ button – the normal lights came on but nothing happens internally.I tried a few more times on the start button but after the third attempt even the lights on the front panel now do not come on – the machine appears to be totally dead. (fuse is OK)

The dishwasher is 10 years old but has been well looked after and has given excellent service (up until now!). I would be happy to tackle a repair providing it wasn’t too complex.

Any ideas or suggestions would be gratefully received.

    Thanks.

I’d check the wiring and function of the door latch switch, also wiring to the selector panel. Had one last week where a connector had simply slipped off and gave similar faults to your machine. Failing that, there may be a problem with the computer board in the bottom.

Power off before removing any panel, also be advised that the edges of the inner door have be honed to a killing edge by Wilkinson Sword……

    Penguin 45,

Thanks for this top tip – I have taken the front door off and control panel (I see what you mean about Wilkinson Sword) and basically had a ‘wiggle’ at all the connections. The machine now powers up OK and I have done one wash cycle on it with no problems.

Does the diagphram switch in the water collection point switch off the power to the machine in the event of a potential flood – I am a bit concerned about the potential depth of the water should something similar occur again!

    thanks

Diaphragm switch is the water level control switch – there is flood protection via a float switch in the tray under the machine. Rough rule of the thumb is that the normal water level should just about touch the salt cap in the base. If the diaphragm switch looks “sludgy”, clean thoroughly with hot water and a tooth brush.
