ParticipantI have a built in whirlpool ADG957 for some time the door would not remain partly open, it simply fell open but it worked okay. Now I cant close the door, or should I say it won’t stay closed. I have to wedge it shut and prop something against it for safety. The door is pretty heavy and would hurt if it fell onto you.
Question is this a door hinge/spring or catch problem, and can I fix it myself? (I have not taken anything apart yet). Thanks

Hinges probably gone oversquare due to lack of springs and brakes. In the fully open position, is the door drooping past 90 degrees?
You’ll probably need a pair of hinges, then you’ll need to identify what has broken in the spring department – there is a spring, band, brake block, pins etc; any or all of which can fail.
We’ll need the 12nc number from the edge of the door to identify components required for you.

ParticipantYes it is the hinge.
I have taken the thing apart. It looks like the door breaks (White plastic “C” shaped things) on both sides have broken up and one of the lever breaks (the flat metal band/spring) on one side has broken. The service number is 8542 957 15410.
I guessing these are the part names having looked at the whirlpool website spares section.
Thanks

Ok, so you need:
4812 404 48591 – brake (the “C” shape things) x 2
4812 401 18397 – brake band – the metal strip
4812 417 18773 – door hinge right
4812 417 18774 – door hinge leftCopy and paste that and send it to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk and they’ll get them pretty promptly.
Be warned the the edges of the door panel are honed to a killing edge and you will cut yourself – be very careful when fitting.
Good luck,

Just spotted this on the search I did.
I’m having the same problem and would appreciate some advice. To get at the following items
4812 404 48591 – brake (the “C” shape things) x 2
4812 401 18397 – brake band – the metal strip
4812 417 18773 – door hinge right
4812 417 18774 – door hinge left
Is it just a matter of removing both side panels and they are on view ?Also do i need to remove the decor door to do this job?

Yes, and the door outer.
Horrible job – note warnings about edges.
