Whirlpool ADG720 WH2 stuck during cycle

I have a Whirlpool ADG720 WH integrated dishwasher that has started to stick during the wash cycle. Is it the programmer or are there other possibilities. Roughly how much for the spare ………….is it time to saygoodnight to the old faithfull?

If it’s sticking during the actual wash, is the water cold when the door is opened as I suspect?

If it is, it may be just a simple thermostat or heater failure, the ADG7?? series was rather plagued by nuisance tripping of the heater protection thermostat.

If you pop up your postcode, a local engineer should be able to offer a service visit to confirm the likely causes, but I don’t think it will be terminal 😉

Yes it has been cold. I will investigate the thermostat etc further thank you for the advice

Dave, my ADG720 is suffering from nuisance tripping of the heater protection thermostat (little red button at base of heater element). Is the element at fault or something else? Thank you in anticipation, Jon Weller.

Three possibilities:

1) Broken wiring in the door at the hinge point (common)
2) Faulty thermostats (less common)
3) Machine underfilling (unusual but possible)

Power off if going in………

Thank you for your reply. I inherited this machine from my mother in law in a faulty state (not heating up) and, having studied UKW, stripped the
front panel and con checked all the wiring to the front panel. I then found the tripped protection device and reset it. All appeared well and I then installed the machine. It worked fine for a month or so and then (guess what!) it tripped again. What exactly does this trip protect and if (as appears likely) it is a thermostat problem, how many are there and where are they? Thanks again, Jon .

The red button stat is a safety overheat stat, which will trip if things get too hot. The operating stat is located in the white plastic holder in the elbow of the sump hose. Apply heat gently and see if it clicks.

Power off of course.

Checked operating stat and appears ok: clicks when heated gently and goes short; on cooling reverts to open cct. I do not understand how this item could trip the overheat stat; I would have thought that if that is tripping it must either be too hot or the stat is actually faulty. Having said that I do not have a cct diagram and therefore do not know how things are interconnected. Do the overheat stats go u/s and if so how do you check them? At what temps do these stats trip/go open? Sorry to bother you with all these questions but I need to get to the bottom of this! 😕 Jon.

Operating stat trips at 65c, safety at 85c from memory. The supply is direct from the programme timer, so there is either a switching problem there, or the element itself has some sort of earth leakage problem. Underfilling can result in insufficient water being sluiced over the element to take the heat off, again this will trip the safety.

Not much more I can tell you really!
