ParticipantHi. I have a -now faulty- Whirlpool ADP 2440WH.
When the machine is plugged in, the dial is turned anywhere from the Off position, the light behind the start switch is lit, and the cycle indicator light is on the ‘rinse’ cycle, regardless of the position of the dial. The machine wants to drain itself, endlessly. If I put water in the machine, it pumps it out, no problem, but keeps on pumping, and never moving on.
What I have done so far:
Cleaned everything inside the machine, it all looked very clean anyways, but did it anyway. Including the arms, and the grill of the drain sensor. No Joy.Next I removed the drain sensor, re-scrubbed the grill, removed the diaphragm and gently washed that too. I then used a continuiety tester to test the micro-switch, which returned normal results for NO and NC. Put it all back together, and no change.
I then tried the following to ge the machine to enter Diagnostics mode:
Open door.
Dial to “Rinse”
Unplug machine
Whilst holding the ‘start’ switch, plug the machine back in. Then waited for the light to start flashing… after 2 min I gave up, released the button, pressed it once and closed the door…. And same as before, tried to drain. (But is now empty).
After yet more reading, I started looking for a float-level switch. . Does my model have one ? If so where ?Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hi it sounds to me like you have got a faulty pressostat, the dish washer thinks it full of water and therefor keeps wanting to empty, very common problem on the whirlpool, if you send me the service number ill look into it tomorrow for you, you will find the number down the right hand side of the door if facing it from the front, it usaly begins in 85

hi the part number for the switch diaphram or pressostat is 481227128407, its an easy job to change it, remove the plinth at the bottom then there is normally 4 screws holding a metal plate onto the cabinet remove that, then 2 screws holding the bottom plate to the cabinet remove that to, then locate the switch diaphram, by looking at the new one you will be able to see how to remove it, just remember when fitting the new one you might have to reuse the old seal its a thin black band to keep it water tight, hope this helps 🙂

Hi thanks, for that, unfortunately I have already removed and tested the diaphragm switch, and against all good sense, manually activated the micro-switch when the machine was running, even allowing 30 seconds in-case there is some sort of delay sequence in the cycle.
Is there some way of getting the machine to run a diagnostics check to get the start button light to flash an error code ?
Could it be something wrong with the selector dial ? Can I check that ?
Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, it was my wife that first noticed it was not doing the job and switched it on and off a few times .. The light stays on now, and the rinse light, regardless of what program you select. She seems to think it was flashing twice, then repeat, but not sure, hence if there was a way of running a diagnostics, we could return to the initial halt-state ?
Thanks.
