ParticipantHi All,
Like a lot of people here my Whirlpool Dishwasher has broken down with the led showing 7 flashes.
If I try a wash the first sign of a fail is the machine goes straight into prewash regardless of the program.
For example I try the quickwash program, the quickwash led is lit but the machine goes into prewash mode then within minutes the quickwash led goes out and the intensive clean light illuminates and the machine goes into drain mode and we get the 7 flashes
Searching through the forum I gather that this error code relates to the flow meter.
I have found that if I thow in a kettle of very hot water into the sump the dishwasher will start as normal, could it be a sensor in the sump??
Im clutching at straws here I know…but if anyone can shed any light on this I would be grateful
Im sure we have had it for 8 years so is it worth repairing??
Regards

Hi All,
Hope this helps others out there..
After some trawling on the web an dreading through this forum I thought Id have a go.
7 Flashes is the flow meter and it seems the main culprit is the connector on the water labyrinth, now at £82 for a new labyrinth (1/3 the cost of a new machine) I wasnt going to replace that but if it was the connector then Id have a go and save myself £350 on a new machine.
Firstly I turned off the power as always, next removed the lid, early Whirlpool machines had a lid that you would knock and lift but this one has two clips at the rear that once you pull back on the centre of the clip they rotate 90 degrees and the push the lid forwards and its off.
There are two screws under the lid a number on the rear near the bottom and the others on the front, 2 behind the plastic lower trim.
Once these were out the side panel can be removed revealing the labyrinth, at the bottom is the flow meter connection, on ours the connector is blue.
I removed the connector, removed the blue surround to the clip, this gives better access to the contacts and then used a fine screw driver to bend the contacts so as to get a better grip on the PCB.
Resembled the machine and switched on……woo hoo.. it works
Hope this helps

Thanks for going into this guys. In the end my machine wouldn’t do anything but F7 in the first minute. I called in a local guy who said he did Whirlpool (call out £20 – not bad compared to the £47 another guy wanted). He pulled out a tall very flat milky plastic tank which has the flowmeter built in and replaced it with a new one. That nailed it. It’s been fine ever since. Total cost £79. (took him nearly an hour plus his travelling time). I don’t think that’s bad after about 6 years continuous use. I wouldn’t have known how to replace the thing myself – he did all sorts of tricky stuff with hidden fixing and took a side panel off to get to it.
So there you go.
Cheers
