ParticipantThis is my own machine which is two years old, although I am a plumber I do not usually work on dishwashers.
When the start button is pressed, the machine appears to carry out a quick drain, then fills with water(cold fill only)it then does nothing apart from making a very slight whirring noise for approximately 1 minute, it then drains and turns off. The water has not been heated because I have interrupted the cycle to check.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,thanks.June 12, 2011 at 9:53 pm #353477kwatt

I don’t do plumbing or profess to be a plumber, but I do appliances, those I can fix, plumbing I’m not so good with. 😉
An ADP5406 is a cooker from MFI under the Diplomat brand, can you clarify the model number is correct please?

Hello Kwatt
The model number is definitely correct “Whirlpool ADP 5406” I can only assume it is still quite a new model and I have been unlucky to have a relatively early fault.
The machine did fail to operate on a number of occasions before it failed completely, we just had to try a couple of times, and by that I mean it operated as I said and we just tried again and it worked, but now it wont.
Do you know if any service/maintenance instructions are available for this appliance?I hope you can help, thanks.

Hi Kwatt
I have no idea what the 12NC number is, but this is everything printed on the label, apart from the obvious ie voltage, power consumption etc, that has not rubbed off with cleaning.
ADP 5406, Type: WIC, Board service: 548631, Data: 548621
Service 8511 561 15830 38 0914 003082
and in another section the CE mark followed by VDE in a triangle the letter P and the number 8511 561 15830 I have taken photos if it helps.
Thanks again, Dunlop.

Okay, the 12NC number is the service number.
I found it and I don’t seem to have any tech info on it at all.
However, any dishwasher will power up, drain to clear the sump, fill then start to heat assuming that it gets water or, enough water, to do so. On that machine there’s a flow meter in the side fill chamber behind the left panel, could be that that’s not detecting enough water or could be a heater issue, those would be the first two areas I’d be looking at.
Are you not getting the lights flashing as the number of flashes or beeps will give you an error code?

No flashing lights the only lights on the machine are the 3,6 or 9 hours delay lights(red) the start light(green) the anti bacterial light(green) and the salt warning light not sure of colour, none of the lights are flashing.
Does the flow meter detect water flow in or does it have another function? regards Dunlop

Odd, should give an error code, usually using the start light flashing.
The flow meter only detects flow.

In the base.
It will have a supply, there’s no requirement to live test just see if it has continuity.

Did you ever find the cause of this problem as I have exactly the same fault on my ADP5406 ?
