Hi, new here and am very appreciative of any help.

The machine starts, drains and then cancels. It gives 8 flashing lights on the cancel button, if i enter the service menu by doing 1-2-3 1-2-3 1-2-3 it blinks 8 + 1 times. According to my manual it means a blockage in the drain hose, drain pump or blocked filter.

I’ve cleared the filter, removed the drain pump and made sure there was no debris stuck, i can spin the impeller freely.. I can hear water inside the drain pump housing.

I’ve tried starting diagnostics but it seems to stop and give of 8 +1 blinking ligtts.

if i fill water manually into the machine, it drains the water fine.

When unplugging and plugging the cord back in, i have gotten the machine to go to different filling cycles maybe 4-5 times in total, it then fills and cancels mid cycle after 5-10 minutes. A few times it got to the heating as there was steam when opening the door, a few times it was cold in the machine.

Is the drain pump not draining fast enough for the machine to go to filling (spinning too slow, low rpm’s?) maybe?

Sigh, i feel i’ve tried everything. There is no water leaks under the machine by the way.

I can not seem to find the manual in English, only the Swedish one that i own.

8+1 shows first thing to check is the OWI sensor

its mounted in the sump and has a clear window. check it clean and not gunged in any way. this detector has to see air within a given time to sense its drained

after that they say try changing sensor and if that fails and there is no blockages than the board is suspect

you could also look at wiring faults in the lower part of the door as some whirlpool machines tend to snap wires

Thanks so much for your help.

i have cleared it with a toothbrush and vinegar and dishsoap but it does not seem to make a difference.

I can like i said, get it to run to different lenghts of cycles, and then it cancels and drains. This would indicate that it believes there is still water in the sump like your diagnosis suggests.

Im just wondering if it’s worth shelling out 70€ for a replacement part, when i can get a new machine home and installed for 500€.

that’s the problem at that price for it not to work is expensive and then its going to be the board

you could check the wires running into the door as a long shot

Thanks for your help, i decided to go with a new one in this case, i feel i’ve tried most things and when there’s intermittent errors i just hate troubleshooting.

I had the guy over here to install my new dishwasher, he refused out of courtesy because he insisted it was the OWI sensor and a quick fix, he even took the sensor out for me so i will have it replaced.

Could i bother you for the service bulletin on how to reset the code and run a diagnostics on this model? Very, very appreciative of your help so far.
