    HELLO!

OK I am a bit of a newbie on here 😯 but my dad tells me everyone is very helpful…

So, I have a Whirlpool afg 8060 upright freezer. It is approximately 4 years old.

The problem is that it is located in my unheated utility room and for a year or so, when external temperatures have been below 10degrees C the freezer temperature display has made a clicking sound. It was as if, when it was cold in the room, the freezer struggled to keep itself at the right temperature inside. It eventually got too cold and now cannot work at all without clicking away and flashing an error message.

What does work is when I press the “fast freeze” button, it is able to go to -22 in a short period of time. However when it returns to normal mode and tries to get to say -8 it starts malfunctioning and clicking.

Does this sound like I need thermostat replacement?

If so where can I get the part and how do I install it?

Thanks for looking – hope to hear back soon!

As far as I can tell it’s a pcb via a sensor that controls temperature not your normal thermostat.
Resistance of the sensor could be checked but it sounds like a control problem, may be down to ambient temp.
All domestic appliances are designed to run at our normal room temp and don’t always perform well in cold situations, cabinets rust and condensation is sometimes an issue.
To check if it is the cold ambient you could move it indoors for a trial period.
