Whirlpool AFG 8080/1X Freezer Problem

I have a chance of getting the said above Stainless Steel Upright Freezer, however the seller has informed me that it needs a new compressor.

They also told me that the lights flicker erratically on it every now and again. They had an engineer out to it and he told them a new compressor was needed. The seller also told me that the freezer still works however gets a bit hot.

Can any one shed any light on the matter? And if so how much would a compressor be if you could supply one to me?

We have an AFG 8080 which also has problems – the electronics “click” and scroll through all the temperature settings available, sometimes changing by a degree or two. This tends to happen in the evenings, when warm, sometimes 4-6 times an evening.

However, everything else is functioning normally. We are looking at repair, but D&G (it has a warranty) say that it is not viable to repair. If your “flashing” is the same thing, then it appears to be a known fault.

As the model is no longer available, we will try to get it repaired anyway, but if we have no luck, will replace it, so we may be able to help you with the compressor and other parts if you are local(ish) to us (Devon). We’ll know within a few days. Have you had any luck?
