ParticipantHi,
I hope someone can help. I purchased an Whirlpool AFG8283 off Ebay from a trade seller and was advertised as used and full functional. It has been in my garage for 2 months while I waited for my new house so was not tested (Enough of that for now)
I plugged it in this weekend and the freezer will not go below -11 and the alarm is going off. I don’t believe the unit is freezing up I understand this is a common problem, however it was off for months before I plugged it in.
I noticed just now that even though the freezer only showed -11 the compressor had stopped making a noise so the unit was silent, I turned the freezer off and on and it has started again, just does not seem to be bringing the temp down.
Any idea on what the issue could be?
Thanks
Glen

I hope you got a warranty with it.
It sounds like a compressor overheat on the face of it but it could be a sensor although I’d doubt it as the alarm is working okay and assuming that the fan is running.

No Warranty!!! And the seller wont help as it is over 28 days….
The fan is running, but when it went silent the compressor and the fan were both off.

Yep I have a feeling I may be… Thats life some you win some you loose!
Will see if I can get someone out to have a look and if it is going to be too much will just have to buy a new freezer.

Hi
We managed to find a leak in one of the pipes which has now been replaced. My dad is a car aircon engineer and has the leak detecting equipment to enable us to find the leak.
We have the r600a to replace the list refrigerant. Does anyone on here know how much r600a this unit requires? Thanks
