I have a Whirlpool AKZ151 cooker, and we have suspected for a while that it doesn’t seem to be as hot as it should. Got hold of an oven thermometer and it is reading approx 20-30 degrees C out.

I have checked the resistance of the temperature sensor, but don’t have anything to compare it against to see if it is correct.

Is it possible to calibrate or adjust the temperature on this oven (took covers off but can’t see anything on PCB) or does anyone have the values that I should expect to see on the sensor.

    Cheers

Have you checked the fan element isn’t open circuit as that’s the most likely cause, it’s a fairly common element available here.

We usually rule out the easy stuff before tackling the more difficult things. 😉

Would the element still get hot if it was open circuit ?

Nope. But 20-30 is too close to ambient especially if you’re not using a calibrated stat to test with, so I’d check the element.

Sorry should probably been a bit clearer. The cooker has a display on the front with the temperature set, and indication when it is up to temperature. If I set it to 220 degrees for example the thermometer shows approx 190-200 degrees. The oven is heating up, just not as hot as expected.

Obviously the thermometer isn’t calibrated, but it’s reading roughly correct for the ambient temperature for the room.

    Oh that’s perfectly normal.

Oven thermostats aren’t exactly high tech and are often up to 15{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} out.
