ParticipantHiya,
Came home yesterday to find the oven had tripped out in my main power box, and when I turned it on again it very briefly warmed up a little…then stopped heating up, and now won’t even warm a little. (fan still comes on, grill still works).
I figure it’s the element, which is no probs, I can get a new one and fix it.
I’m a little concerned though, as the bulb in it blew a few months ago, and when I replaced it it blew again immediately. Also, the under-cupboard lights in the kitchen keep blowing bulbs.
I’m just worried that while I think the element has gone, if my kitchen maybe has some dodgy wiring that’s caused it? Don’t want to buy a new element and blow it straight away!
Anyone got any advice on whether this is all a coincidence? Or why the bulb blew immediately? (Even if that advice is just to get someone out to check it over!)
The oven is 6 yrs old, if that helps and diagnosis, and it hasn’t tripped the switch again.
Thanks in advance.

Hi: It’s possible that you have a loose Neutral connection on your under cupboard lights or it could be as simple as bad connections causing the bulbs to blow, the other thing is that nowadays there are a lot of poorly made bulbs on the market & they don’t last long at all. Since you replaced the bulb in your oven & it blew, have you tried another replacement ? & if so what happened. Do you have problems with other bulbs etc blowing regularly apart from in the kitchen ?

Hiya,
Thanks for your response.
I haven’t tried a second replacement bulb in the oven – it wasn’t a big deal not to have a light in it, to be honest. But if I’m putting in a new element, I’ll do the bulb too.
All other bulbs in the flat are fine – even the overhead kitchen light. It’s just the under-cupboard ones that blow.
I’ve only lived here 6 months – still finding out all these little annoyances!
