My mate has a Whirlpool American type fridge freezer, one of those that make ice & dispence it from the door into your glass etc, he complains of it being EXTREMELY hot at the door where it seals, i told him theres probably an element there to prevent the door freezing closed, but he says you couldn’t put your hand on it at times?? any ideas, can it be disconnected to shut him up or is there a great need to have it there?? (don’t have model but will edit this when i have).

You need to have a look at the condenser cooling fan at the back of the appliance. If this stops running the centre of the cabinet overheats.
It isnt a heater in there its part of the refrigeration system.

There is a hot pipe around the freezer door imbedded into the cabinet to prevent the seal and cabinet contact from freezing.
Faulty cooling fans or condensor coils dusted up can raise the temperature of this hotpipe.

If the freezer is working ok then the cause of excessive heat could be one of incorrect ventilation, the lower back of the cabinett should be correctly sealed allowing the lower front grill to draw in fresh air and expel the used air.

An over warn ambient can also cause this effect.

    Hope that helps.
