ParticipantWe have had the above product since Nov 2006 , in the past 4 months the fan on the freezer side comes on and stays on until eventually the alarm sounds and the temperature shows a hyphen. A local engineer advised me to take the panelling out of the freezer side and defrost the element with a hairdryer , this i did and everything went back to normal. Over the last couple of months this has happened more and more regularly . Reading the manual and listening to other advice items in the freezer have to be placed so as not to disrupt air flow , this we did the last time it went off and lo and behold the alarm went off. What i want to know is , is it just a case of ensuring the freezer is loaded properly or as i’m sure is the case , a fault has developed. Any advice much appreciated as i’m sick of dishing out the hairdryer treatment !!!!

Your fridge freezer should defrost itself automatically . With sense, it should make little difference how you load the thing, as long as loose paper and wrapping arent permitted to clog up the grilles .
It souns like the automatic defrost has failed for some reason – if you are competent with test meter , it should be fairly easy to test components and identify what is amiss ; Otherwise, a local engineer should be more than able. If you are working on anything requiring removal of screws, panels etc, remove the mains plug first please 😆June 9, 2010 at 10:22 am #321897tatters

Spoke to an engineer over the weekend and tells me it will be the PCB which will require replacing , he didn,t consider it to be the auto defrost behind the panel. any ideas??? He didn,t pay a visit i spoke to him over the phone
