Participant:boops: Whirlpool Aqua Dry Plus Model AWG230 Bumble Dryer –
Need some help, guys. My wife reported a buzzing noise from this dryer this morning. Probably bees, I said. Ha-ha! Well – It really is bees! The dryer has not been used for a few weeks and bees have made a sizable nest in the blower chamber. I get a buzz from techie problems in the home but this is a first for me involving real bees. I’ve got the air outlet hose off the blower, cleaned out a hundred or so grumpy bees and cleared out a pile of nest material they’d put there. It now runs OK but I’m thinking I need to remove the blower and casing completely to wash it out clean blower blades etc. So here’s the problem. How much of this machine has to come apart to get the blower out? The blower casing seems trapped in there by the motor and drum. Just checking whether motor and part of blower casing splits to give me access for cleaning. Any tricks? Hum! I’m looking at a total strip-down, aren’t I? zzzzzzzzzzzzzzJune 3, 2017 at 2:08 pm #447861Oldtech

Sun came out so I decided to carry on stripping it down. Back-plate holding the drum bearing just has a few screws to remove. I undid the 3 screws holding the bearing as well. Eased belt off pulley drive on motor then snipped some cable ties holding the wiring harness to let me move back to one side. Drum comes out to give plenty of room to see motor and blower casing. Then you see the trick I was hoping somebody would offer! There’s a black push-in plastic rivet on the blower cover. Pull it out then turn plastic cover plate clockwise and impeller, its cover and motor are ready to remove. Just 4 screws underneath motor bracket to unscrew, pull two spades off starter capacitor, another spade out of power cable connector and motor/impeller assembly just slides out. I brushed away enough fluff from motor and fan impeller to make an eiderdown. No wonder these things go on fire sometimes. I have to say this repair is not for the average DIYer. I have the benefit of a degree in engineering and a lot of common sense. I can also run fast from angry bees! One last question guys: The bearing on the drum is sloppy by my standards and it doesn’t look serviceable/replaceable. Am I missing something here?

bit of play in the bearing is not too much of a problem. rear bearing comes with the drum except the early ones that use part number 421309205591
these dryers were originally built in Halifax which is now the factory that makes white knight using the same design until recently

Thanks Dave,
I’ve just re-assembled and all seems OK. I’m just ordering a new belt for it and I’ll keep an eye on bearing wear for now. You’ve got to laugh at this fault. Unbeeeelievable! -
