Whirlpool ART 471/A/4 (856447115010) Fridge/Freezer

Hi,

Went to look at one of these yesterday. Customer reports the fridge isn’t getting cold enough and his stuff is going off within a couple of days even on the lowest temperature setting, freezer seems ok. It’s a single thermostat design with no separate freezer setting control or fans blowing air from the freezer. The compressor wasn’t running when I arrived, but if I switch the thermostat in the fridge to the off position and then turn thermostat back on I can hear the compressor starts up ok which to me suggests the thermostat and compressor starting/running electrics are ok (unless of course thermostats can go out of tolerance rather than just failing completely stuck on or off?)

Any clues as to what might be the cause or how to progress the investigation would be greatly appreciated.
