ParticipantThe machine is not draining, and is displaying the error “E 06”.
I have manually drained the machine using the short hose behind the plinth and removed the screw cover for the pump. There was a 5p and a small hair clip in there which I removed.
The pump is turning easily when i rotate it with my finger, the only resistance being a feeling like there is a magnet behind it that puts up resistance a few times per full turn (sorry for the terrible explanation).
After ensuring there were no obstructions or dirt/fluff in the opening, I screwed the cover back on and tried another cycle.
Same problem again, when it comes time to drain I get the “E 06” error and the water doesnt drain.
I manually drained again and this time momentarily switched the machine on whilst the pump cover was off. I can see the pump spinning very fast so I assume its ok.
The water will drain out of the front of the machine through the aperture to the pump, so it seems any blockage is after the pump rather than before it. I may be way off the mark, but thats how it seems.
I am currently running a drying cycle and draining manually with the short drain hose. The pump has come on for a short while which, I assume, is because the machine thinks there should be water there ready to be pushed out to the drain (obviously the water isnt there as I have manually drained it already).
Is it realistic that there is a blockage in a place other than the pump?
I am a complete novice so I really dont know what to try.
Thanks for reading 🙂

SMEG-built integrated appliance – almost certainly coupled to a drain spigot under the sink – strip and check as your first port of call. After that, dependening on the competency of your kitchen fitters, the drain hose may be pinched or trapped. It’s possible that a coin can lodge in the outlet tube of the drain pump……..

Wow! Thanks for such a fast response!
The machine has been in heavy daily use for 8 months and this is the first time its not worked. I have just checked the fittings going into the trap under the sink and its all clean and clear.
Is it accessible for me to get to the outlet tube to check/clear it?
Sorry for asking so many questions, I really appreciate your help.
Cheers

Pump is really a “drag it out and get underneath” job – difficulty depends on how your fitters fitted it…….. Undo the screws and the pump will push back and down – power off first. You will also be able to check the routing of the drain hose.
Bear in mind that all kitchen fitters, when they die, go straight down!

Hahahahahaha … I will indeed bear that in mind … These fitters worked for Barratt Homestoo, so the chances are they are only on day release from “down there” anyway!
I will drag the thing out tomorrow, thanks for your help mate.

A 5p will fit exactly into the outlet tube of the pump…….
Good luck, let us know how you get on.

Excellent advice mate! Cheers!
It was a small button, incidentally exactlyu the same size as a 5p, odged into the exit pipe where it joined onto the fitting that screws under the sink. I didnt see it when I checked out under the sink because its about 3″ into the pipe where the internal diameter is reduced for the fitting to go inside the pipe.
Thanks so much mate, its very much appreciated.

Hi, I didn’t want to create a new thredad given there seems to be some great advice here, but as a novice I have some follow up questions. I have a ameg WDI 12C:
1. is the pump located at the bottom left of the machine? Theres a black screw tap on something which I can take off but was scared to remove the thing behind it.
2. there is also a black tube which is to the right of this, is this the small hose you talk about?
3. the pipe at the back which feeds the sink, is this possible to be removed from the back of the machine and not the sink? it appears to go into the machine and not accssible at the end point unless perhaps i take the back panel off.
what steps should i follow if i’ve identified the correct parts and shoould i expect water to come gushing out if i remove anything. thanks

The black threaded cover is the filter cover.Behind that you will find the pump. The hoses connected to the pump will be from the machine with one hose to drain.Be aware that if you have water in the machine removal of any of the hoses will result in water all over the floor so have plenty of towels handy.
Make sure you unplug the machine before you do anything.August 8, 2011 at 6:56 pm #267354ninsingh

If it is only a blockage you should be able to clear it.If you don’t find anything then you could have a problem with the pump, then it would be time to call the calvary.

Yep,check it at both ends.If your drain pipe is plumbed directly to under sink plumbing it could be a problem there.
