Is this machine a top loader or a front loader?
It is a front end loader.
The valve has two solenoids, one for each compartment. From my playing around with the controls it looks like the water supply to compartment one switches off when I switch the power off, (so that seems OK) but the water to compartment two keeps going when I switch the power off. (Seems to be a fault) – I have to then switch off at the stop cock.
That seems to reset the valve to the closed position. I can then open the valve, and if the controls have been set to zero, no water will go through the valve until I select a program and swich the ‘on’ switch on.
Have been looking at other washing machine (dual solenoid) cold water fill and then two solenoids to control the water to both compartments.
Could we disconnect one solenoid? (will the machine get enough water to wash)Could we connect both wires to the solenoid that’s working to see if that is the problem (all the water will go to compartment one) – the downside is shorting the control board.
If the valve looks similar does it matter about the make … will the solenoids work on similar voltages? Have noticed several similar looking on ebay … or the generic one <a href=" here

The machine will not work with one solenoid disconnected, do not under any circumstances put both wires on one valve.
Some of the Whirlpool valves use connections that are not on the generic valves.
This model number is causing us real problems in identifying the correct part. Most of the official software leads us to wine coolers as well. :rolls:
If you can take a decent picture of the valve and post it up via an image hosting site we may have a chance.
The voltage is not a problem, its the wiring connections, the angle and size of the valve outlet that varies.
