The old unit has blown, any ideas as to what may have caused this, fill valves appear to be connected in that area,

After removing and testing the heater & NTC, both of which were fine, I then set about going through every component once again and this time I spotted the small connector to the cold fill valve had shorted across the back, talk about needle in a haystack 😥 , not easy to spot in a darkish kitchen. As machine is a built in, it has a flat top and there was a small leak from the draining board situated above it.

Whilst I was feeling suitably pleased with finding the initial cause of the failure the darned thing will still not work.
Close examination of the new control unit shows no visible signs of damage but the only things that come on are the pilot light, the door lock and the drain pump if I blow up the pressure hose and trip the high level switch. 😕

Reading through the thread again, it appears as if you stopped looking for the fault when you found the blown track and assumed that the blown track was the reason for no-go. Is it possible that the machine has been working with the blown track for a while and the customer was unaware that the valve was not working? Perhaps it was the hot valve or the Fab valve?

Your original post looked like a typical no motor action. The first thing a whirlpool does after energising the door is to test the motor. If the motor is O/C or there is no tacho feedback then it will just sit there!

I would test motor continuity from the timer connector plugs.

You may be reading the thread from back to front Bob, 😉

The very first thing I did was to check the motor on my initial call, brushes hardly worn, all resistances perfect, I even removed it from the machine to test. I have also checked every single wire from the motor to control unit.

The cold valve is in fact OK, the short on the connector plug which was definitely the cold valve would have blown the original control unit. It was not just a blown track but several components, links, resistors & a triac blown, no way it would work like that. Machine only has two single valves and a diverter for the fabric conditioner. I suspect that fitting the new unit before I found the burnt connector may have done some damage to it.

A work in progress that is already into negative equity.. :rolls:

You’ve hit the nail on the head Jim, I have blown a few new timers on this type of machine only to find a short that had took out the original timer.

I would bet on the new timer being knackered now 🙁

I will know for certain within the next few days. 😥 Have you ever come across this fault on the cold valve connector before John?

Never, I would gestimate that in about 95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of cases when the timer is blown it is either the door lock or heater/NTC that causes it.

Trust me to get an odd ball one. 😥
