ParticipantHi all newbie here. Ok have a whirlpool awm 1000. When you start it it clicks twice and nothing for 60/90 seconds tries to start then nothing. I thought it might be door locking mechcanism but some posts say “brushes”. Are these hard to fit or do I need engineer. thanks in advance robie

Ah, it’s one of the old Servis type ones.
Door lock or carbons are both possibilities I suppose but does it even fill?

And even that now doesn’t do the trick, right? Then I would venture to suggest the door interlock may well need replacing to cure the problem.

Not too bad, why do you ask? A quick glance at the motor and you’ll see what I mean.

Thanks Martin will try door first. Looked at motor last night looks like they just plug in. Would I be right? Girl in shop said to get a repair man to do it. ALSO how do I know if brushes need changing?

10 out of 10 for observation.

Ah! For that you will first need to remove them and look to see if there is plenty of carbon left on the end of each. (minimum 15mm)
If you are the least bit hesitant over any of this then “the girl in shop” may well be right! 😀
