ParticipantHi Guys,
Hoping to tap into your knowledge again as you have done the business twice before for me.
My Whirlpool AWM 325 will not drain or carry out a spin during a the wash cycle and continues to wash instead. I vaguely remember having problems with the brushes many moons ago but unsure if that was this machine or if this could be the reason anyway.
Just got back from hols and the wife has been hammering it all day with suitcases worth of gear, can i blame her at least??Any advice is appreciated and thanks in advance.

Hi Mike
If it won’t drain it won’t spin anyway. An experienced ear will tell if the pump is actually running and if it isn’t then it’s either blocked or knackered. Draining problems are nearly always a blockage somewhere. IIRC your machine has a filter behind the kick panel at the front so that’s your first port of call. Failing that it’s time to start disconnecting hoses to find the blockage.
If it needs a pump then have a look in http://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/ to find one.

Hi Clive and thanks for the quick response.
I have drained it from the front about an hour ago and part of my daughters missing school bus pass has popped out as well. It is a credit card type of material so i am wondering if the rest of it is jammed in there somewhere.
Off to investigate the filter in more detail,
Thanks mate.

My money would be it’s in the sump hose (runs from tub to pump) 😉

Hi there,
I did find the remainder of the plastic bus card in the top of the hose where the ball is.
Cycle has gone through again and still not draining entirely so no spin either.
Dial on the front seems to want to click past the spin/drain function!!!!
Frustrated now….

I select the drain only setting and the agitator clicks on to the next cycle.
Any suggestions?

Yes…check through the rest of the hoses 😉

Thanks Clive, done that now and it seems the only potential blockage was the plastic bus pass remnants from earlier as the other pipes are clear.
Does the drain pump kick in automatically when the machine tells it too? If this is the problem how can i check.
Cheers

The pump is switched by the pcb when it’s required i.e. when the machine needs to drain. It may be that the pump is indeed a gonner but it seems a big coincidence that it stopped draining when the bus pass got in 😉
Knowing whether a pump is worn is very much an experienced ear listening to it so unless you have some experience then it may be time to call an engineer? (link below)
Alternatively, a pump is not a hugely expensive item so you might like to try it and see?
HTH?

Thanks Clive, i am waiting on a reply from the whitegoods parts suplier to confirm which drain pump it is i need.
If its not too expensive i will give it a whirl then contact an engineer.Your help is much appreciated.
One more question, HTH? abbreviation for what? quite new to this stuff
Thanks again
