    Hi
I got home from work today to find a small lake in the kitchen and my washing machine 5 inches away from the position I had left it in with its door unattached.

I am unsure whether the washing machine jumped around due to the rucksack inside getting caught somehow or the fact that the drain had blocked (could effluent back-up cause enough pressure inside machine to make it jump and blow out door?)

The glass and outer plastic rim of the door are unbroken (it fell into the laundry basket rather than onto the slate floor) but a small (< 1 inch) piece of plastic has sheared off the inner plastic rim of the door (the plastic ring that has hinge and door fastener on it).

Does anyone know whether the unbroken parts of the door can be salvaged and the likely cost of getting the door fixed? Is it also likely the machine will work with a new door or would the pressure build-up/mechanism jam render the washing machine unsalvagable?

Thanks very much in advance for any advice.

most likely your machine had a wildly unbalanced load!

always try to put several articlesof similar size and absorbancy together in the same washload….for example, one towel is much worse than 3 or 4.

it’s unusual for a door to break off like that, but , as I said, to make the machine jump that far, indicates a wildly unbalanced load (assuming the machine was properly installed and levelled!)

There is a “find a part” feature on this site, if you can’t find the bit you want, try e-mailing them.

prices are good, they’re very helpful and the delivery is super!

If you think it’s all beyond you, use the “find an engineer” at the bottom of the posts. you’ll need the model details which are usually on a label between the door-seal and the door edge (well, that’s when the door is on 🙂

Thanks for the reply cockney steve.

That scenario sounds likely as all the clothes I washed with the bag ended up inside the bag.

I’ll try looking up the part and screwing it back on myself although as I am no good with DIY, I may end up calling out an engineer.

    Thanks again.
