ParticipantHi, I guess this could be a simple one, but help please.
We have had a foul smell from the machine for several months, typical of stagnant water / slime. All hoses are clear and even the pump has been replaced, but nothing in the way of blockage can be found.
We normally only use a 40° wash, but have tried 95° washes with no laundry, sometimes even with bleach to get rid of the smell, all to no avail.
The machine is about 2 years old.
Ideas / suggestions are welcome.
Thanks,
Megavolt

Hi
What type of drain connection do you have stand pipe or spout on side of sink trap.
If sink trap hose it should rise to highest point under sink to stop back flow from drain and not piont down wards from spout. Also use best wash powder and regular maint wash at 90deg

Hi
Its quite possibly the years of using a liquid detergent and not religously doing a maintenance wash ie hottest wash possible; every month using a quality Powder/tablet eg Ariel, with no clothes in it.
Have you checked if it goes to sink waste, that a backflow cannot occur?Greg

Hi guys,
Many thanks for the tips.
To answer your questions:
1. We have a stand pipe drain connection.
2. We always use powder – usually Tesco ‘Colours.’ Is that ‘best’ powder?
3. Checked out Dave’s article – thanks for that. We have not been used to maintenance washes – never used them before . . but propose to carry out several in quick succession right now and then keep up the regime.
I have also noticed the cold inlet valve lets in a small amount of water overnight, which as suggested may be a source of smell, even thought the machine is used daily. I’ll be relacing it, but it seems to be quite a ‘special’ and a universal one does not appear to fit.
Any more sugeestions are most welcome.
Best regards,
Megavolt

Hi
Any powder/tablet with “colour” in the title will not have oxygenated bleach in it, hence the need to use normal powder/tablet for the maintenance wash.
The “best” powder/tablet is independantly proven to be Ariel.Greg

Thanks Greg,
Bought some Ariel this afternoon. it’s the Bio stuff in the green packet as mentioned in Dave’s article. If you see a green cloud forming over the Great Yarmouth area, I might have overdone it . . . .
Now, about that inlet valve . . . .
Kind regards,
Tony -
