Whirlpool awm 8143 washing machine

help? when in wash mode the drum speeds for a couple of seconds up as if it was about to spin sometimes it will finish the cycle ok but other times it shuts its self down
Sometimes it remembers where it was when you reset it.
Everything else works as it should
Do you think its major or fixable its 7 years old

sounds like a motor tacho problem could be as easy as a loose wire to motor a broken wire or just chaffed through if you are going to investigate yourself them make sure that you remove the mains plug as washing machines can kill!! call an engineer if you are not sure.

Nothing seems loose
I take it that would be a new motor then?
