Whirlpool AWM029 door handle

Sold a w/p door handle kit to one to one of our customers yesterday. Came back today with the door and all the bits seemingly fitted correctly but he wanted to know if hed fitted it right. It all seems to have slotted in ok but pushes the inner & outer plastic door trims apart at the edge of the pecker which apparently “it didnt do before”

my guess is the plastic has warped over the years but considering i didnt see how the old configuration was before he fitted it icant say for sure – i wondered if anyone had any ideas?

ok, so looking at it ‘logically’?

the outside spring appears to have no function?

doesnt look right to me, but its hard to tell from a pic, isnt it

the outside spring pushes against the other door trim. but i agree i dont see its function. I really dont understand why the design for this door lever is so overly complicated!
