Whirlpool AWM049 “water Stop lamp”

My Whirlpool washing machine has stopped operating correctly. It starts a cycle and then appears to get stuck at the beginning of the cycle, the Water Stop light is illuminated.

Any ideas ??

Most likely the machine has an internal leak or that the drain filter is blocked. Check that out first and if there is still a problem let us know 🙂

Thanks for your advice. I did as you suggested but found no blockage or leak, however the machine started working correctly so possibly the leak is an intermittent one that dried out by the time I got to checking, it is intermittent or we used too much soap powder…
I’ll keep an eye on it to see if it returns, but as I say, Thanks for yoru help.

i also have a problem with water stop light coming on, usually just before spin cycle.took back off machine and base had water in it,the water had triggered the float switch which stopped water. i dried it up and machine worked ok for 2 washes then same problem.has anyone had a similar problem?
