ModeratorDidn’t really want to go out to this but felt sorry for the old dear, in her eighties and a bit frail.
Had someone out who has just started advertising in the local paper, no address, just Des from Huddersfield Rd and an 0800 phone number. 😥
Her description of the original fault is rather vague but it may be that she thought it was a little noisy, not really certain though.
This herbert apparently told her he had fitted a second hand motor from his shed. :rolls:
It has not worked since and he is now putting the phone down on her. :rolls:
The motor does look as though it has spent some time in a shed or on the floor somewhere but it did run a little.
Set it to rinse & long spin. It filled and appeared to do a reverse wash action fine. It then clicked over to spin and started to drain, ramped up to spin for around 5 seconds then stopped completely, pump went off as well. After 15 seconds it started to drain and go into spin again but once again stopped after a few seconds.
It repeated this ad infinitum ( or at least until I switched it off)
She says it was not doing this before he fitted the motor.
Questions, is this likely to be caused by the motor or has he goosed the control unit in some way?
Jim.

Sorted.
I did have a new motor for one of these so took a chance and popped it in the machine this morning. glad to say that it is now running perfectly.
The old ladies initial complaint was that the machine was making a noise. It still is but it is something we all see from time to time. The drum shaft water seal is squealing a bit when slowing down from spin. I have heard this noise on Hotpoint, Hoover, Zanussi and many others. It never usually causes a problem.
This toe rag appears to have taken her perfectly good motor and fitted a duff second hand one. The comm looks poor and it appears to have had some sub standard, non gen brushes fitted.
It did give the impression that an overload was cutting out, then after 15 seconds making again, strange why it stopped the drain pump as well though.
The only reason I risked the motor was because she said it was spinning perfectly before he stuck the old one in it.
He charged her £45.00, no invoice, nothing. Someone from Age Concern has been round and hopefully they will get onto the local paper and trading standards for her.

ParticipantObviously fitting rubbish parts and not going back to recalls is totally wrong but charging £45 for a reconidtioned motor and labour, WOW cheap as chips!.
Don’t worry I don’t think he will be in buisiness too long with that pricing. -
