WHIRLPOOL AWO 3551 flashing door lock light

When I select a program the drain/pump and program select sequence occurs. The door locks and cannot be opened and the door locked light stays on. When the initial sequence ends and the wash cycle should start the door lock light starts to flash (door remains locked) and the washer comes to a halt.

The only way to reopen the door is to choose the drain program. When this finishes after 2 minutes the door lock activates and can be opened.

This suggests that the door interlock works as it operates when the drain program ends. I have changed it anyway to check and the same problem occurs.

What could cause this problem? I’ve trawled the ‘net and other comments regarding other models suggest either wiring or control board problems.

This machine was made in October 2004 and I am at a crossroads as to repair or get rid.

Check the carbon brushes in the motor. If the drive motor is out of circuit, the only functional programme is drain.

Would brushes problem cause the door lock light to flash? I’m just trying to find out what set of circumstances cause the flashing light.

ps I’ve no practical knowledge whatsoever !

Hello, I have exactly the same problem !! Is there any answer to reolve the problem ? I have replaced with a new interlock system with 5 contacts (the old one have 3 contacts) and the machine continue to stop with red light flashing.. It’s really a problem of the carbon brushes ??

Hi, I have the same problem. It started tonight. Put a wash on and it was fine, put another one on and it went half way through the load and it stopped and the door would open. Put it back on to finish the wash, now the ‘mini load’ and hold bottons are flashing along with the on/off button. Turned off from socket and unplugged. Nothing. It seems to take water in for a few seconds then stops dead and starts flashing. Anyone able to help/advise?
