whirlpool AWO/D 4505 wont spin

This machine washes fine but when in the spin cycle it distributes the load then starts a slow spin then stops then repeats and stops until end of cycle.

Tried it with no load on spin only cycle and it will go to a fast spin for a few seconds then stop and repeat but the whole cycle is very short (about 1 minute).

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

This sounds like there is a problem with the tacho on the motor. Could need replacing. If you are looking yourself make sure you are safe and always unplug while checking.
