ParticipantHi, so glad I’ve found this site where everyone seems so knowledgeable and helpful!
Anyway my machine is 2 and a half years old and have never had a problem with it until today when it completely died mid wash! I’m hoping someone can help me diagnose the problem. Washed perfectly fine this morning, then this afternoon used it again and at some point during the wash it just lost all power (I didn’t see this happen, just found it less than an hour after)
I have manually drained the machine, the water was not hot at all so I’m not convinced its the NTC that seems to be a thing that comes up when searching faults. Obviously I’ve checked the fuse and the power socket.
Basically the front screen does not come on and the whole thing is dead, having a look inside there is no obvious burning on the electrical connections or circuit board (like you would get it a fuse or resistor was fried)
I should say i’m not an engineer but am pretty good at repairing most things as long as I understand the logic and get good advice – unfortunately never tried a washing machine before!
Any help will be much appreciated
Thanks
Steve

Check the obvious first to eliminate a faulty cable. Check power at mains suppressor
Then it’s a matter of tracing the power through to the board.

many thanks for your fast answer, I’ll try and trace back the power and see where it stops, will update on here once I get somewhere with it
ThanksSteve

ok so I’ve checked the power back, first the unit inside the machine where the power lead connects into and this has power coming out of it, followed this to the programmer PCB (not the LCD screen circuit board but the main one with the dial on). This got a bit confusing at this stage as there are so many cables coming in and out but I think this is where the problem is. I’ve found a used but tested one to buy but before ‘gambling’ on the fact I have made the right diagnostic thought I’d check if this sounds likely that this is what the fault is?
Thanks

IIRC most Whirlpools suffer resistor failure on the PCB. Identify and solder in a new resistor ( don’t ask me which one as I have no clue) should cure the problem…..hopefully that is.

Ive looked at all of the resistors on the pcb none of them look like they are blown. no signs of burning or discolouration.
