ParticipantHI, I have been using this brilliant site for 3 or 4 years now and this is the first time I have had to post my problem because i could’nt find the answer using Search. I have checked the two thermostats on the back of the dryer for continuity and they are ok, are there anymore on this model I need to check and what else do I need to look out for? any common faults? Thanks. Kev.

Have you checked the Element for continuity?

Hi thanks for the quick reply, I am not to sure how to check the element because the only wires I can see going to it are the ones going to the thermostats first so, when I checked the stats would’nt this automatically check the elements continuity at the same time 😕 excuse me if I am being a bit thick 😀 Kev

Hi Kev: No your not being thick at all. The thermostats / cutouts are in series with 1 of the supply wires to the element, What you need to do is disconnect the wires from the element itself. Once you’ve done this, use your multimeter on the resistance range & check the element for continuity. The actual element resistance is not important for now just that you have continuity.
PLEASE REMEMBER: POWER OFF & PLUG OUT FIRST, Getting :zap: can seriously shorten your life.

Got the heater element out. Unplugged red and brown wires, put meter over these connections and nothing. Does this mean I need a new element?

Looks like it Kev, just make sure you were using the meter on resistance & not continuity.
