ParticipantWe bought this auto sensing condenser dryer in May 2005 when we lived in Paris and it has worked perfectly since we moved back to South Wales in December 2006.
If I put on a load on the “ready to wear” cycle the timer shows 1Hr 02 mins and the machine runs normally, the “6th Sense” light comes on and the display changes according to how wet the load is.
When the timer reaches 58 mins the LED display “cycles” as the the “6th sense” circuitry recalculates the drying cycle. At this point, the timer drops to 14 mins which is clearly a huge error as the load is still damp when checked by hand.
I have taken out the contact strips (humidity sensor) just under the door filter and cleaned it with steel wool as I understand that the metal has been known to oxidise over time.
This has made no difference so I removed the top cover and checked where the plug from this humidity sensor plugs into the control board at the top RHS of the cabinet.
There are no obvious cracks or dry solder joints. If I set the machine to run on the 60, 40 or 20 min cycles, it will run for the full time selected but obviously I have to check every so often to make sure my clothes aren’t overheated.
I would be grateful for any advice…thanks.

It’s not a UK model – I’m sorry, I can’t find any tech info to help you. You can assume that it’s a sensor or sensor circuit problem if the timed dry sequence works. This simply applies heat against time, rather than against humidity, which is what the self sensing programmes do.

I have spent ages trawling the Whirlpool site and have found that the AWZ8577 is the identical model except for the French writing on the fascia panels.

I have had another look at the sensor (2 metal strips below the fluff filter) and it’s wiring to the control board.
There are no breaks in the wiring and no dry solder joints on the control board.
I can only conclude that the control board is faulty but I can’t find any reference to the part on any spares sites. The code number on the edge of the board is 4303 303 31684.
Can anybody help in locating a price/supplier for this board?
