ParticipantNot certain if links to youtube are allowed but if so, here is a link to a Whirlpool circulation pump being disassembled.

If the link is removed, find it by searchingWhirlpool Dishwasher Pump Motor Repair (And Upgrade?) by Phillips Home Repair
In this video (approx 2:45), when he takes the pump apart, there is water and white residue. Is this normal for water to be here? Is that normal? I see the large O-Ring, so thinking perhaps water is supposed to get there and the O-Ring keeps the pump from leaking, but not certain. Seems strange the shaft (rotor) would be allowed to get wet.

Moderatorthis type of pump has a permanent magnet rotor. the rotor gets wet and the white stuff is lubricant. This allows the unit to operate with no water seals making leaks almost impossible
you state you have a leaking motor. is it the early motor that does not look like this
or
is it this motor and the small tube has gone causing a leaks. had lots of these tubes burstits very unlikely the motor in the utubke video has the leak

ParticipantIt is the same motor or it looks exactly like the one in the video. It is leaking at the O-ring between the two pieces that come apart when the 4 screws are removed. It is used. I bought it from an individual who said it worked, he had just upgraded. Didn’t say anything about a leak. I connected it up outside to test before bringing it in the house and installing it. That is when I noticed the leak.
I thought the white stuff I cleaned out was from powdered dishwashing soap (that’s what it looked like).
The video shows the movement of the shaft in the bearing, thought perhaps it was worn and that was why water was getting on the rotor. Where does the white lubricant go that keeps it water tight?

Moderatorthe lubricant does not keep it water tight the o ring does
wear in bearing stops pump starting but it wont leak
you need a new pump

Moderatormakes sense now I see your stateside
even if you fit the pump you have it wont last long. they fail because the rotor catches the casing and stops the motor starting
